Minnesotans Mark & Rose wanted their home to be their own private resort. After all, their lot was directly across from the gulf of Mexico beaches where many would pass on foot, bicycles and golf carts, the preferred way to get around on beautiful Boca Grande. The customers first wanted us to consider designing the home with a 3rd level Widows Walk if the view was expansive enough to justify the added expense. So David Benner, owner of Safety Harbor Builders had a lift brought to the site so that we could get a 1st hand look. But the two story building to the west and a number of tall pines conspired against the Widows Walk and made Plan B, more attractive.
The luxury builder and home designer Dave Jenkins, made the case that the front of the home should face the the breezy beach road with it’s active and amiable pedestrian traffic, which is especially true during the winter months when the island’s population swells. The courtyard home with it’s generous Lanai would flank on two sides, the resort style outdoor living area that includes a swimming pool, spa and fire pit. A large front porch not only fit the cottage style architecture the clients were after, but it doubled as the perfect invitation for them to meet so many new amiable neighbors! Our friendly customers fit right in with the receptive residents on the exclusive, Gasparilla Island.
We started the custom home design after a number of conversations with the home owners, finding out details of their family’s specific situation and needs. We refer many custom design clients to the houzz.com website for inspiration and this client was no different. Rose provided just a handful of images of what she liked, enabling us to produce an attractive and comprehensive Preliminary Design Package in just two weeks time.
The clients were very excited how Jenkins incorporated into the design, precisely what they were attracted too. This was especially true of the Great Room, Dining and Kitchen public space, with a surprising vaulted ceiling and three dormer windows that lit up the space from above. The vaulted ceiling was also enhanced by beautiful truss beams. Head east down the hall from the public space and pass a Guest Room, two Guest Baths and a Den that serves as a 4th Bedroom if needed, next to the Master Suite. The spacious Master Suite rests at the end of the hall. Complete with extra large walk-in closet and views of the pool deck.
Wanting to assure comfort and privacy for their guests as well as their own privacy, the home has a large, 3rd Guest Suite above the Garage that offers a splendid view of the pool deck below.
