THE brindisi – West Indies Inspired

Custom Home

This is one of a number of luxury homes we designed for customers in Nassau, Bahamas. The West Indies/Charleston inspired home reveals the historical link between Charleston, SC and Nassau, Bahamas. The two city’s cultural and trade relations date back hundreds of years and traditional Low Country architectural style is very common throughout the West Indies. The endless covered balconies, catwalks and whimsical cantilevered balconies as well as the dual pitched shake roofs, stucco corner quoins, truss tails at the eves and fixed shutters for shade are what people love about the very charming and very southern, Charleston architecture.

The two city’s cultural and trade relations date back hundreds of years and traditional Low Country architectural style is very common throughout the West Indies. The endless covered balconies, catwalks and whimsical cantilevered balconies are lined with chamfered columns and supported by elegant braces. The dual pitched shake roofs, are lined with truss tails at the eves and fixed shutters for shade are what people love about the very charming and very southern, Charleston architecture. To complete the aesthetic, the mixed exterior siding and stucco walls are edged with corner quoins and rest on top of a stone water table.

Its a boater’s paradise, and the homeowner appreciates the less than a minute to the Atlantic Ocean from the dock at the rear of the home. Although relatively narrow, the size of the two-story waterfront, the 55’ 4” wide home’s size is misleading at 4370 square feet, which also includes the Guest House above the courtyard Garage.

Like many of our younger customers, the owners wanted their Master Suite on the Upper Floor to take in the terrific views from their private balcony. Wanting a home with plenty of indoor/outdoor relationships, below is the Kitchen, Dining and Great Room space that has direct access to the covered Lanai and the pool deck and dock beyond from every room. The customers also wanted a Parlor at the front of the home adjacent the Entry Foyer. It’s a Low Country good manners to greet visitors at the front of the home since everyone would not necessarily be invited back to the more intimate family gathering space. The Den up front may serve as a secondary Guest Suite in the main house, but the Guest House above the Garage offers real privacy and autonomy for honored visitors.

For privacy, the clients also will lushly landscape the side courtyard to surround and buffer the Spa with floating bar. A swim lane begins at the spa and ends at the covered Gazebo between the water features. The home is truly a private resort.
